The Canadian immigration system assesses Express Entry candidates using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Approximately every two weeks, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) selects the highest-scoring candidates from the general pool for permanent residency through invitation rounds, known as “General Draws”. Additionally, every 1-4 months, IRCC conducts draws for specific categories with lower pass marks compared to the general draw, known as “Category-Specific Draws”.
These categories include:
- French-language proficiency
- Healthcare occupations
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations
- Trade occupations
- Transport occupations
- Agriculture and agri-food occupations
